places: serenity down the street

where i live there are lots and lots of land reservations and coming from a long line of cranberry farmers (my great-great-great grandfather was A.D. Makepeace) i simply love everything about the outdoors.  my long-time (4 1/2 years) boyfriend, johnathan and i have found a new love for a reservation called redbrook/lyman reserve.

this beautiful place holds many different trails, all of them being clear, clean and beautiful to walk through. one particular trail that is our favorite is a beach trail.  it starts at the parking lot and leads to a secluded beach on buttermilk bay.  johnathan finds his peace here by fly fishing, his favorite stress reliever and hobby.
while johnathan fishes, i enjoy running on these beautifully cleared trails.  there are so many trees enclosing the trails that it provides a cool running experience. (i hate running when it is hot outside. i just can't do it).  running every trail and back to where you start tallies up to be about 3.5 miles, a good run if i do say so myself.
this place is amazing, let me tell you. this tree that naturally fell across the river connects one side of a trail to a different trail that is not part of the redbrook/lyman reserve.  this trail is rarely traveled probably because most people wouldn't want to walk across this tree just to see what is on the other side (johnathan and i are a different story, we like the adventure)

everyone needs a place that calms them, a place to go to when the weight of the world seems to be on your shoulders, a place to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures that nature can bring.

this is my place...
